Located in Salt Lake City , Utah , a center of leading
blood pump research and development, MedQuest was incorporated in 1993 to
commercialize the HeartQuest™ Ventricular Assist Device (VAD). The founding
group’s earlier experience developing a pulsatile total artificial heart
(TAH) from concept to animal trials convinced them that:
• VADs were a simpler, safer, and more effective blood pump
than TAHs and would meet 90% of
patient needs.
• To succeed, blood pumps needed to incorporate a
breakthrough technology for increased
reliability.
• The only way to achieve such reliability and provide
maximum benefits was to effectively
implement magnetic levitation technology in a blood pump.
Since inception, MedQuest has executed HeartQuest™ VAD
development from concept to blood pump feasibility in animals today. Major
HeartQuest™ VAD milestones achieved led to medical foundation-based
support, NIH grants, and Series A financing.
